Floor Lamp This floor lamp was designed to reconstruct and ship flat. It was constructed during a studio course focused on ready-to-assemble furniture.

Design Development The design of the lamp's structure was largely driven by the necessity to accommodate compact packaging. Design inspiration was taken from industrial equipment such as cranes. The telescopic piston is a primary design element that keeps the lamp adjustable.
Once the basic design had been established, details such as joints were designed. The metal joints were designed to be machined out of steel and incorporated a bearing to ease flexibility. A full Solidworks model of the lamp was built in order to create drawings of the parts to be machined.
Fabrication
Shade The shade was designed and fabricated after the structure. Since the structure was inspired in part by construction equipment, the shade took design inspiration from the visual profile of a skyscraper under construction.
